Listen Up! Italy’s Top 140 Grapes as Told by Wine Pros

My Italian Grape Geek Journal was published in 2023, as a pocket sized companion to mastering Italian wine, one grape at a time. The idea behind the book was to step away from all the complexities that surround Italian wine and provide a stimulating, achievable pathway for Italian wine enthusiasts to cultivate their own learning experience, one grape at a time. The IGG Journal focuses on the key 140 grape varieties, out of the 600+ registered grapes in the country. So many grapes and so much wine can be overwhelming, so IGG gives readers just the main 140 grapes to get started with, with brief descriptions of each one and benchmark producers listed so Italian wine lovers can confidently choose the wines they want to taste. Each entry has dedicated space for readers to record their own tasting notes, making the learning process far more personal than the typical reference or textbook.

The Italian Grape Geek Journal went on to become an academic course and a podcast. First, the course was created, with Level 1 based on the book, available 100% online, so students can study when they want and where they want. Level 2 is taught in person by certified Italian Grape Educators, and focuses on the fine details of tasting Italian wine, expanding the knowledge gained in Level 1, and using accessible language as an intentional departure from more formal wine education programs.

Through the podcast, the IGG Playlist takes this introductory Italian wine learning experience to the next level. A dedicated group of certified Italian Wine Ambassadors were recruited from around the world to share their knowledge and experience, narrating each grape through their own personal lens. The podcast covers the entire Italian Grape Geek Journal, grape by grape, giving listeners the chance to hear directly from Italian wine professionals, for free.
